The return of the adidas Atlanta sees the brand pay homage to former marathon runners Grete Waitz and Kathrine Switzer, who both wore the adidas Atlanta for their original purpose. For this blue colourway, the number on the tongue is the number worn by Switzer for the 1967 Boston Marathon, where as a woman she was forbidden from entering. She ran anyway, using her initials 'K.V' to hide her real first name and got a man to collect her running bib for her.
